Modern Website Style & Function

We are currently in a modern website transition. Moving away from the old, simple, HTML based website to a new elegant php web 2.0 based website. This transition is great for business, all the small web design firms are turning profit in this recession economy, but this also increases competition exponentially. Niche markets are the focus of small businesses seeking work, there they’ll find numerous small budget jobs in volume. Small businesses across the nation are transitioning to the 2.0 web that allows customers to find a business over different communication avenues such as: Facebook, Twitter, City Search, Google Locals, youtube, etc. These different sites can all generate traffic for a business, increasing the number of sales that a company can do monthly. That is why it is essential for a small business to have the latest website and online marketing campaign. Here are some styles that a Web 2.0 website carries.

Simple Layout

We’re seeing more simple 1- and 2-column designs than in previous years. The overall feel you get from most modern websites are simple, clean, high resolution and condensed. These pages read in a straightforward way from top to bottom, and you don’t find your eye skipping around trying to work out what to look at. It’s a much calmer and more solid browsing experience than in times gone by.

Centered Orientation

Most websites now a days are all centered in the middle of the screen. The center around the central axis. Years ago most websites enjoyed being centered around the left margin of the screen. Now with larger monitors being the norm, websites are centered around the center of the browser simply because there is plenty of room

Design the content, not the page

Good modern web designs put less energy into designing the page background and rather focus on designing the content itself. You’ll notice most modern websites will have a very ordinary background such as: a gradient, 2-tone, or white. Instead you should focus on the banners and pictures to accentuate your websites styling. Many websites are using bright or pastel colors. It is important when designing a website for Search Engine Optimization to have large amounts of content on the homepage. This is essential for ranking high.

Center Content

When the content sits in the centre of the screen, it feels up-front, confident and easy to read. It also gives a sense of simplicity and balance, which reflects the move towards clean, more Zen, design. Most Businesses like it when their client doesn’t have to scroll down to see the most important content.

OVERALL

These design tips are to help you create the best possible impression on your websites traffic. The better the impression, the better of converting an onlooker into a client. Ultimately design is only one aspect of a good website. Functionality for a business is the other key aspect. If a website isn’t converting business then you could be wasting money on hosting and online advertising. This is not functional and must be updated, redesigned or rebuilt for better conversion.

  4. You definitely bring up a good point in our age of instant gratification. I am from the old school of designing and yes I do remember burnishing those Letraset rub ons, and still do on some hand designed projects. I still draft by hand with an old T-Sq and Triangle too, but I have embraced the advancement of technology that has allowed all designers of any design background to simplify the process.

  40. Your web presence is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise crowded “cyberforest” of fetid and half-dead websites perporting to offer value but actually falling short of being even partly unique. Thank you for fighting the rising tide of cat/dog sites, psudo-knowledge sites, and the ever popular “here I am” sites. You guys do value-added in a big way. Thanks!
