Google Fiber is Google’s next leap into a technology sub-sector. Google has already made an appearance in Online Marketing, SEO, Mobile Content, Mobile Operating Systems, VoIP Calling, Video Chat, Geographic Information Technology (i.e. Google Maps & Google Earth) and just about any other modern technology you can think of. Google Fiber will be a prototype ultra high-speed fiber optic network that is going to be tested in a handful of small towns around the United States. Google’s claim is that the network will deliver internet speeds more than 100 times faster than cable broadband networks owned by most Americans today with up to 1 gigabit per second file transfer speeds.
The plan that Google has will allow internet users to download an HD movie in less than 5 minutes, allow doctors to stream HD 3-D medical images over the web to discuss and give the ability for live streaming 3-D classrooms on College Campuses.

If the plan is successful, Google says it well offer competitive pricing to at least 50,000 users but says that the network can easily handle over 500,000 users. This will help Google transverse into the communications industry by allowing it to compete with Qwest Corporation, Cox Cable and other communications based companies. Cities around the nation from Tempe, Arizona to Pleasanton, California and places on the east coast are requesting information to apply for the Google Fiber Project.
