How Whipple Superchargers Migrated from Web Shop Manager to Shopify Plus with Configurable Supercharger Kits
TL;DR
What We Shipped
Fyresite migrated Whipple Superchargers from Web Shop Manager to Shopify Plus in 2026. Whipple builds supercharger systems for trucks, muscle cars, hot rods and boats, and most of its kits are built to order. The old store depended on an outside fitment tool and layers of kit options that were hard to manage. Fyresite designed and built a custom Shopify Plus theme, rebuilt fitment and kit configuration as Shopify data, added fraud screening for high-dollar orders, and moved 8,217 historical orders across. The new whipplesuperchargers.com went live in October 2026.
Moved a high-dollar store off Web Shop Manager.
A custom Shopify Plus theme, 569 active products and every historical order carried across.
Rebuilt fitment as Shopify data.
Automotive, Hot Rod and Marine fitment on metaobjects, behind one three-tab vehicle selector.
Built a kit configurator on Shopify Functions.
Options and add-ons price through a cart transform, and the configured part number lands on the order.
Checked the VIN before the kit.
Kit pages decode the shopper's VIN to confirm the vehicle before they commit.
Put compliance next to fitment.
CARB EO numbers and 50-state legal labels show on the products that carry them.
Screened high-dollar orders for fraud.
Signifyd reviews orders on a store where a single kit costs thousands.

The Problem
Whipple Superchargers sells direct to enthusiasts, and most of its supercharger kits are built to order with lead times measured in months. A single order can run into the thousands, so every step of the buying journey carries weight: the right kit for the right vehicle, the right options, and a payment the shop can trust.
The store ran on Web Shop Manager, which bundled the storefront, search and fitment into one package. Fitment lived in an outside tool fed from that platform, so Whipple could not manage it directly. Kits carried layers of dependent options, from tuner and warranty choices to pulley sizes and polished finishes, and the old option setup did not map cleanly to how the kits are actually built. Card-not-present fraud on high-dollar orders was a constant risk, and the existing fraud tool scored orders without taking on any chargeback liability.
The storefront itself held the products back. A dark, all-black design made it hard for any kit to stand out, and the old vehicle finder did not match the quality of the hardware it was selling.
The Solution
Fyresite moved Whipple from Web Shop Manager to Shopify Plus on a custom-designed theme built around the two ways Whipple customers shop: by vehicle and by kit. The new design is brighter and product-first, so the hardware is what stands out.
Fitment moved into Shopify as structured data. Automotive, Hot Rod and Marine applications each have their own metaobject definition, and one vehicle selector covers all three with tabs that remember the shopper’s choice. Search and filtering run on Algolia. Kit pages add a VIN check against the free NHTSA database so shoppers can confirm their vehicle before they buy, and CARB EO numbers and 50-state legal labels sit beside fitment on the 139 products that carry them.
The kit configurator stores options and add-ons as Shopify metaobjects instead of an explosion of variants. A Shopify cart transform function prices each selection, add-ons land as their own cart lines, and the configured part number is written onto the order so Whipple’s team sees exactly what was built.
Around the storefront, Fyresite connected Signifyd for fraud screening, set Avalara as the tax provider, kept Shopper Approved on the new store, rebuilt Whipple’s forms and added a custom dealer locator covering 227 locations in eight countries. The data migration carried 569 active products, 8,217 historical orders and 7,376 customer records, with 1,446 redirects and an ID-based fallback so old Web Shop Manager links still land on the right page. The new store went live on October 28, 2026.
Fyresite Parts Intelligence™
What Parts Intelligence looked like on Whipple Superchargers
Whipple’s fitment problem was not one catalog but three: street vehicles, hot rods and boats. Parts Intelligence gave each its own data model and put all three behind one selector.
Split fitment by how the engine is used
Automotive, Hot Rod and Marine applications each got their own metaobject definition, because a late-model F-150 and a marine big-block are described in completely different terms. Whipple manages all three inside Shopify admin, with no outside fitment tool to feed.
Put three catalogs behind one selector
The vehicle selector has a tab for each application. It remembers the shopper’s choice across the site and opens on the Hot Rod or Marine tab automatically when a shopper lands on those collections.
Checked the VIN before the kit
Kit pages decode the shopper’s VIN through the free NHTSA vPIC database, served through a Parts Intelligence app proxy. The check confirms the vehicle without ever blocking add to cart, so a lookup hiccup never costs a sale.
Treated compliance as part of fitment
CARB EO numbers show per variant, and 139 products carry a 50-state legal label. Compliance badges respect model years, so a kit that fits a newer truck than its CARB coverage does not overstate what is street legal.
Ran search and filtering on one Algolia index
Fitment, specs and product data feed an Algolia index that Whipple owns. Collection filters key off the same structured data, so filtering by engine or application works from one source instead of hand-kept tags.
Carried the old URLs forward
Web Shop Manager resolved pages by numeric ID, so any old slug still worked. Shopify needs an exact path, so Fyresite loaded 1,446 redirects and built a 926-entry ID lookup into the 404 page to catch old links the list missed.
Custom Features
What we engineered
Metaobject Kit Configurator
Kit options and add-ons live as Shopify metaobjects, with required choices enforced and pricing calculated by a Shopify cart transform function.
Add-Ons as Separate Cart Lines
Add-ons ride as their own line items, so a shopper can drop an accessory without rebuilding the kit, and the configured part number is written to the order.
Three-Mode Vehicle Selector
One selector for Automotive, Hot Rod and Marine fitment that remembers the shopper's choice and opens on the right tab for each collection.
VIN Check on Kit Pages
A free NHTSA vPIC lookup confirms the shopper's vehicle on kit pages without ever blocking add to cart.
CARB Compliance Labels
Per-variant CARB EO numbers and 50-state legal labels on 139 products, shown right next to fitment.
Custom Dealer Locator
A dealer and installer map covering 227 locations in eight countries, for shoppers who want their kit installed locally.
A Kit Configurator Built on Metaobjects and Shopify Functions
Whipple’s kits do not fit a standard variant model. One kit can carry a tuner choice, a warranty option, a pulley size and a finish upgrade, and some add-ons come with choices of their own. The source data reflected years of workarounds: 27 part numbers were shared across 36 products, and 43 products carried two separately priced option sets.
Fyresite moved options and add-ons into Shopify metaobjects and priced each configuration with a Shopify cart transform function. Placement metafields on 103 products control where Shopify’s native picker sits relative to the custom options, so every kit page reads in the order a shopper decides. Where price depends on a combination, such as a polished finish that costs more with one adapter plate than another, a product-level pricing rule handles it.
Add-ons land in the cart as their own lines, so a shopper can drop an accessory without losing the kit. The configured part number is written onto the order, giving Whipple’s team the exact build without decoding a list of options.
Fitment for Trucks, Hot Rods and Boats
Most automotive fitment stops at Year/Make/Model. Whipple also sells to hot rod builders and boat owners, whose engines are not tied to a production vehicle. Fyresite gave Automotive, Hot Rod and Marine fitment separate metaobject definitions so each could be described in its own terms, then put them behind one selector with a tab for each.
The selector remembers the shopper’s vehicle and switches to the Hot Rod or Marine tab automatically on those collections. Kit pages add a VIN check through the free NHTSA vPIC database, chosen over a paid VIN service, and it confirms the vehicle without ever standing between a shopper and checkout.
Compliance sits next to fitment. CARB EO numbers appear per variant and 139 products carry a 50-state legal label, so shoppers in regulated states can see what they can run before they buy.
A Migration That Kept Every Order and Every Old Link
Fyresite ran the data move through a migration tool with simulate, verify-and-rollback and batch steps, so each load was tested before it touched the store. All 8,217 historical orders came across with 139,135 field checks, and 7,376 of 7,377 customer records came across with 88,036 more. Accounts were imported disabled, so no customer got a surprise activation email on launch day.
Redirects took more than a spreadsheet. Web Shop Manager resolved any URL by its numeric ID, so old links with outdated slugs still worked. Shopify needs exact paths, so Fyresite launched with 1,446 redirects plus a 926-entry ID lookup in the 404 page that sends old ID-based links to the right product.
The DNS zone lived inside Web Shop Manager, so the team prepared a full zone file ahead of time, moved the domain to default nameservers, imported the zone and cut over on October 28, 2026. Orders were coming in by the next morning.
