The Problem
META PCs faced significant challenges with their existing WooCommerce platform. The site had become difficult to maintain, slow to load, and increasingly limited by a heavily customized backend that could not keep pace with the brand’s growth. As a performance-driven custom PC company, META PCs needed an online experience that felt as fast, polished, and reliable as the systems they build.
The biggest challenge was the custom PC configurator. Compatibility rules, component options, pricing logic, and product updates were tied to a fragile system that made catalog management time-consuming and inefficient. Adding new components required repeated manual updates, while the storefront struggled to deliver the modern, cinematic experience customers expected from the brand.
META PCs needed a faster, more scalable platform that could support custom builds, ready-to-ship systems, retail locations, inventory workflows, and future growth without adding more complexity to the business.
The Solution
Fyresite, as a trusted Shopify Plus Partner, was brought in to lead META PCs’ migration from WooCommerce to Shopify Plus. The project required careful planning to ensure the new storefront could support the brand’s custom PC buying experience, retail operations, and backend workflows without disrupting the systems that drive daily revenue.
Fyresite rebuilt the site on Shopify Plus with a custom theme designed around speed, scalability, and a more cinematic brand experience. The team redesigned key shopping paths, including the homepage, product detail pages, collections, and the custom PC builder, creating a more modern and intuitive experience for customers shopping ready-to-ship systems, components, and fully customized builds.
A major focus of the project was rebuilding the custom PC configurator. Instead of relying on fragile legacy logic, Fyresite developed a cleaner Shopify-based structure using product data, metafields, and metaobjects to manage component options, compatibility rules, pricing behavior, and build selections. This made it easier for the META PCs team to update products and manage the catalog without repeatedly editing multiple configurations by hand.
Fyresite also supported the operational side of the migration by coordinating Shopify Plus with Fishbowl ERP, ShipStation, Shopify POS, and key marketing and analytics tools. This gave META PCs a stronger foundation for online sales, retail inventory, fulfillment, tracking, and future growth across multiple channels.
The result was a faster, more scalable Shopify Plus experience built to match the complexity of META PCs’ business. With a redesigned storefront, a smarter custom PC builder, and stronger backend integrations, META PCs gained a platform designed to support both high-performance eCommerce and long-term operational efficiency.
Custom Features
What we engineered
Dynamic Compatibility Engine
Selecting a white chassis surfaces white-keyed components; a high-TDP CPU grays out incompatible coolers in real time.
Benchmark-Wired Product Cards
Real FPS benchmarks at 1080p and 1440p wired to CPU/GPU SKUs and rendered directly on ready-to-ship product cards.
Two-Layer Data Model
Component types live as metaobjects, product attributes as metafields. Add a SKU once and it cascades everywhere.
Self-Serve Catalog Management
The purchasing team manages the entire catalog without an engineering ticket in sight.
Native Platform Primitives
Built on Shopify's own metaobjects, metafields, and collections — no app sprawl, faster pages, easier handoff.
Consolidated Configurator
Six fragile legacy builders consolidated into three clean core product types with shared rules.
Custom PC Configurator
The custom PC configurator was the centerpiece of the META PCs migration. Customers needed a simple way to build high-performance gaming, workstation, and AI-focused systems, while the META PCs team needed a backend that could scale with a fast-changing component catalog.
Fyresite rebuilt the configurator on Shopify Plus with a cleaner, more maintainable structure designed around real product data. Instead of forcing the team to manage multiple fragile builder configurations, the new experience gives customers a guided path through component selection, pricing updates, and build customization. Each step of the builder was designed to feel intuitive on the front end while giving the META PCs team more control behind the scenes.
The result is a custom commerce experience that supports the complexity of build-to-order PCs without making the buying process feel complicated.
Metaobject-Driven Compatibility Logic
META PCs needed more than a visual product builder. The configurator had to understand how PC components work together. Fyresite rebuilt the builder around Shopify metaobjects and metafields, creating a structured data model for component types, product attributes, compatibility rules, and option logic.
This allows the storefront to respond dynamically as customers make selections. Compatible parts can be surfaced, incompatible options can be hidden or disabled, and the catalog can be updated without rebuilding the entire configurator every time a new SKU is added. What used to require repeated manual updates across multiple builder setups can now be managed from a cleaner Shopify-based system.
This approach reduced backend complexity while giving META PCs a more scalable way to manage custom builds, product logic, and future component expansion.
FPS Benchmark and Save/Share Build Features
To help customers make more confident purchase decisions, Fyresite connected performance-focused product data directly into the shopping experience. FPS benchmarks for 1080p and 1440p gaming performance were mapped through CPU and GPU SKU data, allowing META PCs to surface meaningful performance context on ready-to-ship product cards and custom build experiences.
Fyresite also planned save and share build functionality, giving customers a way to preserve custom configurations through a unique URL. This makes it easier for shoppers to revisit a build, compare options, share a configuration, or return later when they are ready to purchase.
Together, these features turn the configurator into more than a selection tool. They make it a decision-making engine that connects technical specs, real-world performance, and customer confidence in one streamlined experience.
