Confused? Don’t worry, Fyresite has broken it down for you.

What is the Shopify Fulfillment Network?

The Shopify Fulfillment Network, or SFN, is a fulfillment service app that can be used to integrate a service that stores your product and fulfills orders. This is the result of Shopify’s partnership with Flexport.

Benefits of Using the Shopify Fulfillment Network

There are some great benefits you can get from using the SFN. You will have the option to ship your inventory to a single fulfillment center, while Flexport distributes them across multiple locations to make it quicker and easier to ship to customers.

Flexport will automatically choose the best shipping method to deliver your product quickly and affordably. On top of this, they also facilitate returns, saving you time and money.
Who Can Use the Shopify Fulfillment Network
To use the SFN, you must be a merchant based in the United States and selling in the United States.

Your products must meet the Flexport package requirements and cannot be on their list of restricted products.

Some package requirements include that all products must be inbound in boxes and that they pass the FBA drop test. Learn more about these requirements here.

Restricted products include products with special requirements for storage, special handling licenses, alcoholic beverages, CBD, and adult products that don’t meet discreet packing requirements. View the whole list here.

Common Questions and Answers About the Shopify Fulfillment Network

You have questions? We have answers. Here are some of the common questions around the SFN, answered.

What Do I Need to Start?

To get started with the SFN, first you need to make sure you meet the requirements stated above. You also need to make sure that your products have barcodes and SKUs.

Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to start.

Do I Have Tax Liability?

Some of the SFN locations may qualify you as having a physical nexus in that state for the purpose of tax liability. This means that you may be liable for taxes in California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, and Texas.

Can Flexport Fulfill Orders From All of My Sales Channels?

As long as the sale channels are connected to your Shopify account, the imported orders will synchronize with Flexport and the SFN.

That means that if you’re using an app like Marketplace Connect, you can use one fulfillment method across your sales channels, optimizing your workflow.
