Using ChatGPT for Shopify isn’t cheating: it’s adding another tool to your box to make a better experience for you and your customers. But using ChatGPT is a broad scope, and saying use it for Shopify isn’t specific enough to be helpful.
That’s why your favorite Shopify Plus Partner agency (that’s us!) has made this list of surprising ways to use ChatGPT for Shopify, plus prompts to get you started.
Looking to learn more about leveraging AI tools for your Shopify store? Let’s talk.
Use ChatGPT for Shopify Product Descriptions
Product descriptions can be a drag. They have to be both informative and engaging, telling customers what the product is, but, more importantly, also convince them to buy it. On top of that, they need to match your brand voice.
An effective way to use ChatGPT is to write SEO-optimized product descriptions for your store. Shopify doesn’t have a character count limit for product descriptions, so the length is up to you.
Just keep in mind other channels you might want to sell through (like Facebook) have their own
character limits. Also keep in mind that the meta description for each product should be around 150 characters for peak SEO optimization.
Since there is no limit on length, you can add to your prompts lengths and information like headings and bullet points.
Example Prompts
Write an SEO optimized product description for [product] with a knowledgeable but casual tone. Target the following keywords: [insert keywords].
Craft an SEO-friendly Shopify product description for [product]. Emphasize the benefits customers will experience. Write in a tone that is friendly and professional. Include at least one H2 and H3 subheading for scannability, and add 3 – 5 bullet points for key highlights.
Generate a Shopify product description for [product] that balances SEO and conversion optimization. Include urgency words (limited stock, best-seller, trending now), address FAQs, and add keywords like [insert keywords].

Use ChatGPT for Customer Service Responses on Shopify
When a customer reaches out to a business, they expect a quick response. 77% of customers expect an immediate response when they reach out to a company. Regardless of the size of your business, that’s just not realistic.
Shopify offers a variety of AI powered chat bots, including ChatGPT powered ones, that can automatically respond to customers on site. But customers can also contact you through channels that are harder to automate responses for, like email.
If you’re wondering how to respond to emails from customers, try out these prompts.
Example Prompts
Write a friendly and reassuring email response to a customer asking about their order status #[insert number]. If the order has shipped, include the tracking number [insert tracking]. If it hasn’t shipped yet, give the estimated processing and shipping timeframe. Apologize for any delay and thank them for their patience.
Write a customer support email responding to a refund/return request. Acknowledge the issue, explain the return/refund policy clearly, and provide step-by-step instructions on how the customer can complete the process.
Create a warm and appreciative email response to a customer who left a positive review. Thank them sincerely, let them know their feedback means a lot, and invite them to share their experience on social media or refer a friend.

Use ChatGPT for Researching Marketing Strategies
Love it or hate it, marketing is an essential part of every business. But not every Shopify merchant is a marketing expert, or partnered with one. Luckily, you can use ChatGPT to perform some essential marketing tasks.
Once you give ChatGPT relevant data, it can help you understand marketing insights and craft marketing strategies.
Example Prompts
Review my store traffic sources (organic, paid, social, referral, email). Which channels are bringing in the most visitors, and which convert best? Suggest how I can reallocate my marketing budget for higher ROI.
Based on my Shopify customer data, segment my buyers into groups (e.g., first-time vs. repeat customers, high-value vs. low-value). Provide insights into their purchase behavior and recommend personalized marketing strategies for each group.
Look at my store’s abandoned cart data. What percentage of visitors abandon their cart, and at what stage? Suggest 3 optimized email or SMS campaigns I could run to recover more abandoned carts.
