“Will this fit my truck?” is one of the most important questions an automotive shopper can ask. Before adding a part to their cart, they need confidence that it works with their vehicle. When finding that answer requires searching multiple pages or contacting support, the purchase takes more effort.
Connecting automotive fitment data to AI chat gives shoppers another way to find that answer. They can describe their vehicle, ask about a product, and move toward checkout within the same conversation.
At Fyresite, we demonstrated how a custom chat agent connected to Algolia and Shopify can bring this experience to life during our Automotive Fitment webinar. You can watch that here, or keep reading for a detailed breakdown.

How Does Fitment Work Within AI Chat?
A chat agent needs access to structured compatibility data to check whether a product fits a vehicle. Understanding the shopper’s question is only part of the process. The answer needs to come from the merchant’s fitment information.
In our demonstration, we connected a custom agent to an existing store’s live chat integration. The agent used the Algolia API to access a fitment index and Shopify’s Model Context Protocol, or MCP, connections to support shopping actions.
Each connection served a different purpose. Algolia supplied the indexed fitment information used to cross check compatibility. Shopify supported the next steps, including selecting product options, adding products to a cart, and providing a checkout link.
Together, those connections allowed the conversation to move from a question about compatibility to a purchase opportunity.
From “Does It Fit?” to Checkout
The demonstration started with a shopper asking to check fitment. The agent requested vehicle information, and the shopper entered “2010 Chevy Duramax,” followed by a product SKU.
The agent then queried the Algolia fitment index to cross check the product against the vehicle information. After returning a positive fitment result, it offered to add the product to the cart.
That next step matters. A compatibility answer can resolve uncertainty, but shoppers still need an easy way to act on it.
When the shopper accepts, the agent uses the Shopify connection to present the available product options. In this example, there were three variants, and the shopper selected the option with a seven inch black tip.
The agent then supplied a checkout link, allowing the shopper to continue their purchase without manually finding the product again and repeating their selection.
Customers Do Not Always Know the Part Number
A SKU is useful when a customer already knows exactly what they want. However, many shoppers start with a vehicle and a general description of the part they need.
Someone might ask for an exhaust system for their 2010 Duramax instead of entering a specific product number. As discussed in the demonstration, the indexed product attributes allow the agent to work with these broader requests. The data model can also be adjusted around the information customers use when shopping.
For automotive merchants, this creates an opportunity to support more natural product discovery. Customers can begin with familiar language while the connected search and fitment data help narrow the options.
The quality of that experience depends on the information available. Vehicle details, product attributes, and compatibility relationships need enough structure to support useful matches. When a request is ambiguous, the conversation should collect the missing details before confirming fitment.
The Conversation Can Continue After Purchase
The demonstrated integration also connected to Shopify customer functionality, allowing customers to check order statuses through chat.
That extends the value beyond product discovery. A shopper may use the conversation to check compatibility before buying, then return later for help tracking their order.
For merchants, bringing these tasks into one interface can make common customer questions easier to handle. It also gives customers a consistent place to seek help throughout the shopping experience.
What Makes Fitment Chat Useful?
The value comes from connecting the conversation to information and actions that help customers make progress.
A useful fitment chat experience should help shoppers identify their vehicle, find relevant products, verify compatibility, select available options, and reach checkout. Each step should build on the information already provided.
The demonstration shows how these pieces can work together. Algolia supports discovery and fitment validation, while Shopify enables the shopping actions that follow.
For automotive merchants, that means chat can become a practical part of the buying journey. Customers can ask questions in their own words and get help moving from uncertainty to a purchase.
