On April 2nd, Shopify announced a surprising change: key B2B features, previously only available to Shopify Plus merchants, are now available to merchants on all Shopify tiers.
What does this mean? What features are included? How does this impact merchants? Fyresite answers all these questions and more in this post.
A Brief History of Shopify B2B
Shopify launched their B2B services in June of 2022. At launch, it was only available for Shopify Plus merchants. Merchants could choose a dedicated B2B store or a blended D2C and B2B store.
Since launch, Shopify has enriched their B2B ecosystem with numerous updates, including
- ACH Payment
- Catalogs
- Net Payment Terms
- In-store Pickup
- Dedicated Shopify Theme
What Shopify B2B Features are Now Available to All Merchants
Shopify announced that key B2B features are now available to merchants on all tiers. But what are the key features they’re talking about?
3 B2B Catalogs
Included in all plans is the ability to create 3 catalogs. Catalogs allow merchants to create and manage custom catalogs to enhance the B2B shopping experience. Offer personalized products and pricing tiers that align with each client’s needs.
Company Profiles
Company profiles are more than just a way to id customers.
With company profiles, merchants can assign content permissions, payment terms, catalogs, and tax exemption. Multiple contacts and locations can be assigned to one company.
Payment Terms
Shopify lets merchants set payment terms. Available payment terms are
- Immediate
- No payment term, money due on purchase
- Default setting
- Net Payment
- Payment due within a set time of purchase
- Due on Fulfillment
- Payment due when all items in order have been fulfilled
- Fixed Date
- Payment is due on a specific date
All of these payment terms can be set on specific draft orders, and all but fixed date payments can be set on company locations.
Volume Pricing
Volume pricing allows merchants to adjust the price of a product based on the volume of that product that has been sold. This means that merchants can offer a discount to customers purchasing 100 units of a good.
ACH Payments
In the US, merchants can use ACH payments for B2B orders, provided they meet all of the following requirements
- Store must be in the US and accept USD
- Must have fulfilled 100+ orders
- Be on an active Shopify plan
- Have completed identity verification for Shopify Payments
- Customers must have a US bank account and pay in USD
Vaulted Credit Cards
B2B customers can vault their credit cards for easier purchasing. This is available only to merchants that use Shopify Payments.
What B2B Features Remain Exclusive to Shopify Plus?
While key features are now available to every tier, there are some features that remain exclusive to Shopify Plus.
Unlimited Catalogs
While other tiers will be limited to 3 catalogs, Shopify Plus merchants have unlimited catalogs. Having unlimited catalogs allows Plus merchants to make customer specific pricing.
Direct Catalog Assignments
Only Plus merchants can assign companies and locations directly to a catalog. That means they can give specialized catalogs and pricing for each company and location.
Partial Payments & Deposits
Only Plus merchants can require a percentage deposit at checkout, allow payments to be split between payment methods, or allow flexible payments.
