Twice a year, Shopify announces new features and updates in their Shopify Editions. There were over 150 updates that were announced in Shopify’s Shopify Editions Summer 2024. Here are the ones that stood out to our Fyresite team.
Hydrogen Visual Editor
Hydrogen is Shopify’s opinionated stack for headless commerce. In the past, changes had to be made by a developer, no matter how small the change. Now, using the Hydrogen Visual Editor, a team can create, build, and ship from a visual environment.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team loves it for streamlining the workflow between frontend and developers. It will add more collaboration between the design and development teams. It also frees developers up and allows them to focus on more complex features in Remix.
Split Shipping
If you’re a store that has been telling customers to order pre-orders separately, you’ll love this update. Split Shipping allows stores to split fulfillment of orders into multiple shipments if a cart has items that can not be fulfilled in a single shipment.
Orders with preorders, subscriptions, Buy with Prime, different shipping locations, or different shipping profiles will be split into multiple shipments.
Customers will see the shipping options for each shipment once they go through checkout.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team is excited to see the transparency offered with this new feature. Allowing merchants to have different ship times for different products will also keep shops more competitive, like Amazon.
Native Buy X Get Y for Retail
A buy one get one sale is one of the most classic sales there is. Now, retail customers can enjoy the same privilege if you sell in person using Shopify POS Pro. You can learn more about Shopify POS by reading our blog.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team loves this feature because it gives more power to merchants who sell in person. It also helps merchants keep their sales consistent across their sales channels if they sell on POS and online.
Dedicated B2B Theme – “Trade”
Shopify has been constantly adding and upgrading their business to business platform since they launched it. This new 2.0 theme is optimized for wholesale. It also boasts the ability to easily customize without code, thanks to sections and blocks.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team loves this new dedicated theme because it makes repeat B2B sales easier for Shopify merchants. It also helps new B2B merchants get started faster.
B2B Checkout Deposit
Another exciting feature that Shopify has added for B2B is checkout deposit. B2B merchants can now ask for a percentage-based deposit at checkout, configured specially for each customer. For all orders except for draft orders, you can set a percentage deposit based on your payment terms.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team loves this feature because it has been heavily requested by our clients who sell B2B with Shopify Plus.
AI Image Enhancement Tools
Shopify’s AI-powered media editor is better than ever, and can now be used on mobile devices. Shopify also announced that it will soon be coming to even more places across the Shopify Admin.
Some of the image enhancements that can be done are enhancing background, removing background, and customizing media generations with text prompts.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team loves this feature because it makes photo optimization easier, helping our clients take creative control.
Style Settings for Theme
This update allows liquid developers to provide more layout flexibility for merchants. With this feature, style settings map directly to CSS properties. What does this mean? It means easier appearance customization, starting with layout and size and spacing.
Why Our Team Loves It
Our team loves it because it’s a great quality of life addition for styling the sites. This will help current difficulties using live reloading for local theme development.
